22. Tuesday, September 2--Oregon coast and into California

175 miles in 4 hours. Now at a Best Western Motel in Arcata, California. But first......

We bailed out of the Sea Crest Crappy Motel as early as we could wake up and get going. Drove to Gold Beach OR. and asked some folks for a breakfast location recommendation. The locals DO know where to go. Marvelous breakfast.

A true 'fixer-upper' in Gold Beach, Oregon

As we drove down the Oregon coast, we stopped at a pullout for 'Arches'. Arches is a natural rock formation in rocks in the ocean created by wave action. What was truly striking about this short stop was meeting a lady who had worked with Suzanne Montgomery! It is truly a small world.

The scenery along the coast is never the same. Sometimes open ocean, sometimes formations just off the coasts. Never boring.

All along the coast

We again bought supplies for a picnic lunch and headed for the Redwoods.

 Another fine lunch.

Lunch next to the Redwood trails

There are truly few words to adequately describe the Redwoods.....

Bloody Awesome!!......

....Would sort of describe the Park.

There are no captions for the above pictures other than "Awe Inspiring". We took a trail walk for a few miles through the park and were amazed.

Final note: We started this blog entry after checking into the Best Western in Arcata and before going to dinner. We stopped the blog and went to dinner at the 6 Rivers Brewery nearby. As we finished our dinner, Toni spotted Mike Roe, the actor staring on "Dirty Jobs" on the Discovery TV channel. Not being too shy, we got his autograph on the back of our dinner bill and a conversation on his home town, Baltimore. Who wooda thought? What the hell is Mike Roe and his crew doing in Arcata?

Whales, seals, crashing waves, good beer and wine, miles of trees down to the road, blue skies, good friends, fair roads, decent hotels (mostly), meeting new folks, seeing places we had not seen in depth. All good stuff.

Tomorrow, wandering Eureka and heading further south. We have been in contact with friends in the San Francisco area and may stop in.
