24. Thursday Sept. 4 On to Petaluma!

We left Fort Bragg and headed south. Just for a bit, though.

We stopped for gas and Toni realized a canvas tote bag was missing. Lee and Toni had both done the final search of the room to make sure nothing was left so it could not have been left in the room. It was not in the car. Both of us semi-panicked as that bag holds the address book, travel information folder, odds and ends that are really needed (wine opener, etc. You get the picture...)

Anyhow, a rush back to the hotel and what did we find? The bag was in the room, just under a comforter tossed into the corner! What a relief!

We stopped in Mendocino for a drive around and, as usual, nothing was open at 10:00. The town is quaint with lots of weather beaten smaller homes. There were quite a few homes that had square towers attached to them. Must be a local building style.

The rest of the drive down the coast was loooong. I still have trouble believing that this magnificent coastline is still undisturbed and undeveloped. There were very few homes in evidence anywhere along the stretch.

We stopped at the lighthouse in Port Arena but did not want to pay the $7.50 per person fee to climb it. Very desolate location.

We left US 1 and cut across to 101 and headed south to Petaluma, arriving @3:00. It is good to see good friends.

Plans are to chill out for a day or two, go to San Francisco to wander the wharf, talk. Sounds like a good plan.
