26. Saturday Sept. 6-Petaluma and San Francisco

A great day!

Started with croissants (ham and cheese) and muffins at the "Bovine Bakery", a fantastic bakery in Petaluma. Eating breakfast at a parisienne table on the sidewalk.

The happy trio (actually the quartet) before catching the ferry
After breakfast we all headed to the REI store in Corte Madera to buy new shoes and see all the new stuff we didn't have already. Cool store. Toni bought new shoes and Lee was allowed to pay for them.

We caught the 11:45 San Francisco Ferry from Larkspur to San Francisco with the intention of shopping the wharf at the Ferry Terminal. As we left the Larkspur terminal we passed San Quentin prison where Lee had installed phones in the guard's houses on the property in the late 60's. Also on the menu, Alcatraz Prison in the harbor.

Bad guys wanting out

Alcatraz. Nuff said.

There are tons of shops both in the ferry building and the embarcadero section just across the street. Below are multiple pictures below. We had a marvelous time!!

Vendors at the Embarcadero

Lots of vendors, jewelery was predominant

Old time streetcar used only in summer

High speed ferry.
We headed back to Larkspur and then to Petaluma. Somehow we ended up at a brewery, Dempsey's for dinner. Funny how a brewery ended up getting us at the end of the day.  :))

Petaluma was the Chicken Capital of the World at one time decades ago. Other locations have taken on that mantle but the history lives on. Also, Arm Wrestling was once big here yearly and tournaments were staged on TV.

Tomorrow, on to Fresno to visit a cemetery where Lee's ancestors are buried. Then, ON TO YOSEMITE!
